چکیده

The individual intrinsic excitability of the motoneuron pool was investigated by the H-reflex method. A Iinear regression line was calculated +.o be fitted to the recruitment curve of the H-reflex evoked at a range of electric stimulation lower than the threshold of the M-response. The slope of this regression line was found to be significantly invariant among repeated measurements within an individual. This invariant slope of the regression line was suggested to be more effective as a parameter to evaluate the individual intrinsic excitability of the motoneuron pool than the ratio of maximal amplitube of the H-reflex to that of the M-response. Evaluation of H-reflex recruitment curve after application of TENS on the desensitised skin of vertebral column

Electrical stimulation of neuromuscular system has been used in a variety of research and therapeutic applications. Although tri-polar transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS) is commonly used to change motoneuron excitabi1ity, but the effect of TENS on synaptic activities through dorsal column stimulation or cutaneous pathways is unknown. So, the aim of this research study was to determine...

The effect of spinal skin cooling with topical ointment on the recruitment curve parameters of soleus H-reflex

Introduction : There are different applications for cooling in rehabilitation and there is also a controversy in results of applying ice on limb and its effects on motorneurons excitability. Methods : This study was done to determine the effect of applying controlled cooling (rubbing cold ointment with 3°C temperature) on the spinal skin (around T place of S root nerve) on the excitabili...

Conditioned Patellar Tendon Reflex Function in Children With and Without Developmental Coordination Disorders

A conditioned patellar tendon reflex paradigm was used to study the contributions of crossed spinal and supraspinal inputs to the output of the alpha motoneuron pool in children with and without developmental coordination disorders. The basic patellar tendon reflex response was exaggerated in children with developmental coordination disorders. Crossed spinal and supraspinal influences on the ex...

Evident difference in the excitability of the motoneuron pool between normal subjects and patients with spasticity assessed by a new method using H-reflex and M-response.

The excitability of the motoneuron (MN) pool in the resting state was compared between normal control subjects and patients with spasticity resulting from HTLV-I-associated myelopathy, using a new parameter, Hslp/Mslp, and the conventional parameters Hmax/Mmax and Hth/Mth. Differences in the excitability of the MN pool between these two groups reached a high degree of statistical significance o...

The effect of acupuncture on alpha-motoneuron excitability.

The effect of short duration and sustained manual acupuncture on alpha-motoneuron excitability was studied using the Soleus H-reflex. The acupuncture points GB-34 and SP-9 were needled and stimulated manually. Normalised H-reflex and M-wave recruitment curves were constructed and the ratio of the slope of the ascending part of the H-reflex recruitment curve (Hslp) to the slope of the ascending ...
